August 26, 2003Sean is here in Bangkok Thailand
Sean is here in Bangkok and this morning after our free breakfast we went our separate ways, him to the Indian embassy for a visa and me to the Indonesian embassy in the opposite direction. Sean will get his in a week while I have to buy an onward plane ticket before they will issue the visa. Both of us walked home and had a chance to check out some more of the street life and traffic of Bangkok. The place we are staying in, by the way, is called the Woraburi and is located on the quiet end of Sukhumit Rd, Soi 4. All along this street are food vendors with mobile stalls selling fruit, satay, sausages and other items. This lady was selling fried bananas I think. Our street is at a major intersection and a couple of minutes away is a street that is wall to wall Muslim businesses, from tailors to restaurants. This street-side vendor looked to be making some kind of bread item. I look at Bangkok as a good stop off place for tourists and travellers as infrastructure and business is developed enough to be useful. You need a new backpack, watch, camera, belt, suit, you'll find it here. We plan to hit Khao San Rd today again with our stickers and see if we can make good contacts with the owners of internet-cafes. It's nice to have an AC room and a fridge. There's a pub here in the area called Gulliver's Tavern which looks awesome, I passed it the other day (a large version of the Steelhead for Eugenians). Another cool place I visited was an internet caf with 7 pool tables and 2 bars called the Factory. After talking to the manager yesterday I sipped a Coke and couldn't resist having a game so I challenged 2 of the staff (female ) who kicked my ass! (0-5). Guys, don't bet anyone at pool over here, they are sharks. Looking froward to some more of that spicy soup when we head out shortly. Weather outside today is humid, hot, but manageable if you take it slow. Thai Blog is part of the BootsnAll Travel Network.
